DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — The blood alcohol content for the man suspected of hitting and killing a 12-year-old boy in Decatur was over twice the legal limit, Decatur police said.

The Macon County Coroner identified the child who was killed after being hit while riding his bicycle Sunday night as Kavari Drisdell.

It happened just after 5 p.m. near the intersection of North Van Dyke Street and West King Street.

Police say Drisdell was riding his bike down N. Van Dyke Street when he was hit by a Dodge Challenger.

He was taken to the hospital where he died from his injuries.

The car was driven by a 45-year-old man who has been identified as Hassan Woods. He did not sustain any injuries but was arrested for aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol-causing death.

In a sworn statement obtained by WAND News, police said Hassan had glassy blood shot eyes and smelled of alcohol when officers spoke with him. They said his speech was slurred, and he continued to repeat himself over and over when police tried to get more information from him.

Hassan's preliminary breath sample was 0.176, Decatur police said. The legal limit for alcohol while driving is 0.08.

Police said there was a red Solo cup next to the driver door of Hassan's vehicle with brown liquid droplets inside that smelled of alcohol.

Hassan has a previous conviction for DUI according to Macon County court records.

In court Monday, he was denied pre-trial release.

Members of the fatal accident investigation team responded to the scene and are investigating the crash.
