PANA, Ill. (WAND) - One person was killed and another injured after Illinois State Police said they ran from Christian County deputies and crashed.Â
At 6:15 a.m. Wednesday, ISP SWAT was executing a search warrant at a residence on County Highway 12 in Tower Hill.Â
While executing the warrant, ISP said officers saw an occupied vehicle down the street that was believed to be related to the residence that was being searched.
ISP said when a Christian County deputy approached them, the vehicle took off. "A deputy briefly pursued the vehicle but stopped pursuing due to the vehicle driving at a high rate of speed," ISP said in a statement.Â
The deputy lost sight of the vehicle but continued following in the same direction and found the vehicle crashed in the woods in the 200 block of N. 2600 East Road in Pana.
The male driver was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead on scene. The female passenger was transported to an area hospital with injuries.
Special Agents of the Illinois State Police Division of Internal Investigation are investigating. ISP is processing evidence and conducting interviews. All evidence and facts will be submitted for review to the Christian County State’s Attorney's Office. Â
