Woman charged with the murder of 19-month-old girl found guilty

(WAND) - A woman charged with the murder of her then-boyfriend's 19-month-old daughter was found guilty, according to Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul.

Cierra Coker, 24, was found guilty on two counts of first-degree murder based on aggravated battery of a child.

According to the Attorney General's office, Coker was babysitting Sophia Davis and two other children Feb. 6, 2022, while their father was working.

Coker had contacted Davis's mother later that day to tell her the girl was bleeding from her mouth. She died two days later.

The Sangamon County Coroner found Davis died from a traumatic brain injury due to blunt force injuries to the head.

Coker was arrested Feb. 23, 2022, and eventually charged with first-degree murder.

She will be sentenced Oct. 6.
