DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - A convicted felon in Danville has been sentenced for possessing a machine gun.Â
Mareyon Edwards pleaded guilty on September 9 to unlawful possession of a weapon - machine gun, a class 2 felony, for 6 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.Â
This will be served consecutively to a term of two years for another charge, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. He will serve one year probation after being released.Â
On May 6, 2024, Danville police were called to Edgewood Dr. for a gunshot victim. Surveillance footage showed Edwards running inside a home on Edgewood Dr. holding a gun with an extended magazine. While executing a search warrant, police found a backpack in a closet of a bedroom with the gun.Â
The gun was a Glock 30 .45 caliber handgun with an extended magazine and an automatic switch, making a machine gun, loaded with 14 live rounds.Â
Illinois State Police crime lab confirmed the gun was fully automatic and DNA on the grip and magazine belonged to Edwards.Â
Edwards is a repeat offender, the prosecution said.Â
