DANVILLE, Ill. (WAND) — Danville resident Tymone Jackson has been sentenced to 12 years in prison after pleading guilty in two separate cases on Thursday.

Jackson was charged with:

  • Unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, 12 year sentence
  • Possession of contraband in a penal institution, 6 year sentence

On October 26, 2024 Jackson was stopped by the Vermilion County Sheriff's Department. Officers searched Jackson and his vehicle after they observed "suspicious activity" during the stop.

Police found that Jackson was carrying a loaded handgun. Jackson was not allowed to have a firearm since he had previously been convicted of unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon.

While in jail, Jackson was found with cocaine on him, leading to the second charge.

Jackson will serve the sentences concurrently in the Illinois Department of Corrections. He will also serve a year of mandatory supervised release following his release from prison.
