DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — A Decatur man who was charged with attempted murder and domestic battery over a year ago has pleaded guilty to a lesser charge.
According to the Decatur Police Department, Kieshawn L. McGee was arrested the morning of New Year's Day 2025 on charges of attempted murder, domestic battery, and aggravated discharge of a firearm.
DPD officers were en route to a home in the 1500 block of N. Woodford St. after a 911 trace. Dispatchers said that a woman sounded "hysterical," gave an address and hung up.
The woman was able to call back and told dispatch that her car had been shot. When officers met with the woman, she told them that she and McGee got into an argument that morning. She said that he punched her in the face before she left the house and drove away.
Blocks later, the woman said that McGee followed her car and started shooting at her. An officer saw that the woman had swelling on her face and bullet damage to her car.
The woman's aunt was interviewed by DPD and she confirmed that McGee was threatening the woman that morning. The aunt said she left with children before the battery and shooting took place.
Officers located McGee at a home in Decatur, when they heard a single gunshot from inside. McGee was found climbing out of a back window.
After a search of the home, a Glock that had been taken apart was found in three pieces. An officer's sworn statement explained that Glocks require the user to pull the trigger before removing the slide. The officer believed that this process caused the single gunshot heard outside the house.
On Jan. 29, 2026 in court, McGee pleaded guilty to aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. The other charges against him were dropped as part of a plea deal.Â
He was sentenced to 3 years in prison. He will get credit for just over a year of time served.Â
