DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — Across central Illinois, students are back at school. This year, many districts have made a strong push in the classroom to support and understand mental health.

Decatur Public Schools is partnering with "Cartwheel"- an organization providing fast, accessible telehealth to students and families.

The goal of this partnership is to meet the needs of every student. Eldon Conn, the Director of Student Services at DPS says the program "... gives them an opportunity to get help from somebody they won't see at their local grocery store. They're in network for every insurance provider in Illinois, but they also will not turn a student down if they don't have insurance."

DPS signed a three year contract with Cartwheel which provides online resources for not only one-on-one therapy, but group and family therapy as well.

Decatur Public School District hopes this is only the start to better meeting the needs of every student, at all times. "People's mental health and their social health is just extremely important because it's not possible for them to focus and be successful, and get a proper education unless they have that support."
