DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — Eisenhower High School is mourning the loss of a 16-year-old student who was killed in a shooting last week in Decatur.
Police said the shooting happened in the 100 block of South Westdale Avenue last Monday. Marlone Dishman and an 18-year-old were taken to a hospital following the shooting.
Dishman was later pronounced dead at the hospital. The 18-year-old was treated for injuries that were not life-threatening and has since been released.
Eisenhower Principal Mistie Rodriguez shared a message Monday on the school’s Facebook page honoring Dishman and offering condolences to his family, friends and classmates.
“This unexpected loss has deeply impacted our entire school community,” Rodriguez wrote.
Rodriguez asked the community to keep Dishman’s family in its thoughts and respect their privacy as they grieve. She said the school will continue offering support to students and staff as they cope with the loss.
“Marlone — your easy manner and welcoming smile will be missed each and every day,” Rodriguez wrote.
