JACKSONVILLE, Ill. (WAND) - An evacuation in Jacksonville was caused by a false alarm, police said. 

Jacksonville police were called to N. Westgate Ave. around 3:30 Thursday afternoon at the railroad overpass for a report of a suspicious device. 

The device was originally described as an explosive device but was later identified as a component on the railroad tracks. 

The area was temporarily shut down and evacuated but was opened immediately after the situation was deemed safe.
