CASEY, Ill. (WAND) - An emergency evacuation order in Casey has been lifted, after a hydrogen leak at a gas station, according to Clark County 911.
The order was first posted around 9 a.m. Friday on the Clark County 911 Facebook Page. It noted a hydrogen leak at the Mach 1 Phillips 66 gas station on State Highway 49.Â
People were told to leave the area immediately. The City of Casey said the evacuation perimeter was approximately 800 feet, impacting mostly businesses.Â
Hydrogen is highly flammable and can lead to explosions or fires. It's not clear what caused the leak.
The Clark County 911 page noted the hydrogen leak "seems to have stopped." The post noted that area businesses will remain closed until the hydrogen source is removed.Â
Residents do not need to evacuate, according to emergency officials.Â
Casey is a town of approximately 2,400 people located on the border of Cumberland and Clark counties.Â
Sarah Bush Lincoln posted online that its Casey clinic closed on Friday due to the evacuation. The clinic will reopen Monday morning.
