SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - The chance to learn how to save a life is happening in the Springfield area.

The Springfield Firefighters Local 37 is offering CPR training to the public. The course being taught is designed for people with little or no medical training. Matt Raymond, Local 37 CPR Trainer, said it's an important training to have.

"Medical science has taught us when someone is in cardiac arrest, early CPR and early defibrillation are two of the most key things to survival," explained Raymond.

The course costs $35, which includes all training and materials, as well as an American Heart Association Heartsaver Card that's good for two years.

"The sooner someone can start CPR, even before the fire department or ambulance arrival, it increases their chances to live," said Raymond.

Training on Tuesday is full. Local 37 said they plan on having another community CPR training at the Firefighters Lake Club in Springfield later. To keep up to date with training classes click here. Follow Local 37 on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook for more.Â
