SPRINGFIELD, IL- Construction work zone safety was front and center after an IDOT truck was hit by a semi-truck Tuesday afternoon on I-72 just west of Decatur.

No one was killed in this crash, but the Illinois Department of Transportation says around 20-30 work zone accidents each year claim lives.

Phyllis Scott is the aunt of Jeff Staley. Jeff was a highway worker killed in a work zone crash back in 2006.

Jeff's sister set up the "Jeff Staley Foundation" as a way to promote work zone safety.

"It was just him and her," Scott said of Jeff and his sister during an event Wednesday in Springfield. "She lost a brother and she didn't want other people to lose brothers and sisters."

The Jeff Staley Foundation promotes work zone safety in central and southern Illinois, as well as in Missouri.

Jeff Staley was 40 years-old when he was killed in that work zone crash.
