(WAND) -- Throughout the nation Saturday, there were hundreds of non-violent “Hands Off” protests opposing efforts by President Donald Trump and his advisor Elon Musk’s to restructure the government.
One of those protests was at West Side Park in Champaign where hundreds of people gathered. Many drivers passing by honked their horns in support.
Organizers of the event said their rally raised concerns about Trump Administration policies including immigration, healthcare, and employment.
"Our core message is take your hands off." said Organizer Jeff Dougan.
"Today is really important because it shows that so many of our community members are upset with what's going on at the federal level under the Trump administration. So it's partially educational, but it's also about mobilizing." said Claudia Lennhoff, Executive Director of Champaign County Healthcare Consumers."
A similar rally was held on the steps of the state capitol in Springfield.
Many demonstrators calling for the administration to keep their hands off of social security and more.
Several more demonstrators were held across Illinois.
