EFFINGHAM, Ill. (WAND) — One person is dead after hitting a guardrail on I-57 in Effingham County Friday morning.
According to Illinois State Police, troopers responded to I-57 southbound at milepost 156 just south of Effingham for a report of a single-vehicle crash.
Police said that the vehicle left the roadway for unknown reasons and hit a guardrail. One person was pronounced dead at the scene.
ISP said one lane was closed for an investigation until just before 6 a.m. Friday. The crash is still under investigation.
