SAVOY, Ill. (WAND) - First responders were honored at the Savoy Fire Department Monday for their work in saving a teenager experiencing cardiac arrest.

Twelve first responders, including a Champaign County Sheriff's deputy and five Savoy firefighters, were recognized.

The teen's brother also attended the ceremony and said he is thankful for the important part that each played in keeping his brother alive.

"To have everyone who was involved in his care and coordination — first responders, METCAD, everyone. Because of them, he's here today, and it means a lot to me," Anastacio Basilio said.

Each honoree received a certificate of recognition and a challenge coin.
