RANTOUL, Ill. (WAND) - The Department of the Air Force hosted a public meeting in Rantoul Wednesday to update the community about efforts to remove forever chemicals at the former Chanute Air Force Base.

Representatives gave information about the PFAS removal process and answered questions.

Paul Carroll, Air Force program manager for Chanute, said the plan is to assess the severity and extent of the contamination.

"We've gotten a lot more data collected and we understand a lot better the nature and extent of contamination on the former base. And we've got some good updates to give people," Carroll said.

Wand News previously took a deeper look at the issues with the p-fas that have contaminated the former base.
