VERMILION COUNTY, Ill. (WAND) — The Carle Health Mobile Market is making it easier for Vermilion County residents to access low-cost fresh produce.
The mobile market is now accepting SNAP benefits, and is also launching Mobile Market Food Share in Vermilion County.
Gardeners or growers who have an abundance of fruits or vegetables this year are invited to make donations to the mobile market. There will be no charge to shoppers for donated food items.
"We are thrilled to have both SNAP and Mobile Market Food Share help us fulfill our mission to support residents in making fresh, health food choices in communities with limited or no grocery options as a means of improving health outcomes," Carle Health Community Health Inititatives Executive Director Jonathan Woods said.
The mobile market initiative, launched in 2025, is meant to address food insecurity and improve community well-being. Fresh, frozen and chilled foods are sold at a low cost in areas with few or no grocery options, with most stops lasting 1.5 to 2 hours.
