CLINTON, Ill. (WAND) — The Clinton CUSD #15 approved a new interim superintendent during a special board of education meeting Tuesday night.

The board voted 5-0 to approve Dr. Charles "Chuck" Nagel for the role. Two board members were not present.

Nagel will serve as the interim superintendent starting on July 22, 2026 and continuing through June 30, 2027. According to his contract obtained by WAND News through a FOIA request, Nagel will be paid $1,000 for each day worked. He will work no more than 120 days, or the maximum allowed by law.

This comes after superintendent Drew Goebel announced he will exit the role at the end of the upcoming school year.

The school district said the board of education and Goebel came to a mutual decision to end his contract. He will be on paid administrative leave through the remainder of the school year.
