DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - The Devon Amphitheater hosted a Juneteenth celebration Friday, an event consisting of vendors, food trucks, giveaways, live entertainment and more.
Juneteenth marks the end of slavery in the United States and has been a federal holiday since 2021. Â
Organizer Stacey Young has hosted this event for the last five years.Â
"We are celebrating Black culture, Black excellence and the holiday that is Juneteenth," Young said. "We're just excited to have it all in one place, and everybody has a chance to have fun and enjoy for free."Â Â
The celebration was the first of many events in Decatur in recognition of the holiday.
On Saturday, more festivities will take place, including the Juneteenth Emancipation Parade in Downtown Decatur.Â
