DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - A family from Decatur claims that their children were wrongfully taken away from them for over a year. They are holding the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) and a Peoria hospital accountable and are now suing both the caseworkers and a doctor involved.
Patti and Jacob Krueger frequently visit the hospital because one of their sons has a medical issue. In 2017, they took him to the emergency room, where DCFS and Dr. Petrak investigated the family for medical child abuse. They ultimately closed the case, labeling the allegations as unfounded.
However, two years later, during another hospital visit, the doctor returned to the situation, despite the case being closed. The Kruegers’ attorney, Aaron Rapier, stated that the doctor changed her stance, now claiming that the original case involved medical child abuse.
The family’s attorney argues that the boys were removed from their home without a court order. They are seeking $100 million in damages from the doctor and wish to prevent her from causing further harm to other families.
