DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - Several areas of Decatur are under a boil order until further notice.

Decatur boil order 4.16.26

Map of the area of Decatur affected by the April 16 boil order

The City of Decatur said Monday the order impacts residents north of East North Fork Road and south of East William Street Road, east of North Country Club Road, North Glendale Avenue south of East North Fork Road, and North Excelsior Street south of East North Fork Road.

The current order expanded a previous order after a water main break on North Country Club Road Monday afternoon.

It's unclear how long the boil order will be in place. According to the city's website, a water sample and testing will need to be completed before the boil water order can be lifted.

The city recommends the following for those under a boil water order:

  • Boil water from the faucet for three to five minutes before drinking or using to cook
  • Do not brush teeth with tap water
  • Do not use a dishwasher or an ice machine
  • Do not use tap water to rinse or clean food, such as vegetables and fruits
  • Taking a bath or shower is safe

Once the boil water order is lifted the city recommends residents run water through faucets for several minutes.
