ARTHUR, Ill. (WAND) – If you haven’t completed your summer plans circle June 28th on your calendar. That’s the day for one of the largest fireworks shows in downstate Illinois.

“It is one of the premier aerial fireworks shows you’ll see in Illinois,” Larry Schlabach told WAND News about the massive display in the Douglas County town of Arthur.

The quiet Amish community will see a night of rockets, patriotism and everything red, white and blue. Larry handles ground displays including one called Niagara Falls.

“We have a 500 foot long, 100 foot tall, Niagara Falls. It’s like a curtain of sparks and it’s completely silent,” he said.

The fireworks start at dusk. Gates open at 4pm on June 28th at Jurgens Park in Arthur. It’s suggested you arrive as early as possible because of the large crowds which come from across Illinois.
