SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) — The University of Illinois Springfield will reveal a new landmark bringing awareness to mental health on Monday.
A new bench designed to promote suicide prevention awareness will be unveiled at noon on October 27. It will be at the southeast corner of the University Hall building sidewalk near the UIS admissions office.
It was donated by Josh's Benches, a nonprofit dedicated to helping spread mental health awareness and important local services.
The bench is bright yellow and will feature the suicide and crisis lifeline number.Â
After the bench is unveiled, a mental health check-in event will be held on the Student Union north patio. There will be activities including coloring and journaling, and snacks like s'mores, cookies and hot chocolate.
