URBANA, Ill. (WAND) - Urbana City Council has approved Verdell Jones III as a council member for the City's Ward 4.

The City of Urbana said the term will begin immediately and will last until April 6, 2027. 

Jones plans to focus on youth development, housing affordability and neighborhood safety during his term, according to the City. 

He has lived in Ward 4 for five years and currently serves as a firefighter for the Champaign Fire Department.
