SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - Waste Management is taking over landscape waste collection for the City of Springfield.
Service will start Sept. 1 for customers. There will be a collection every other week from March through December, with just one pickup in January and February.
A Waste Management spokesman said two new collection vehicles were added to their fleet.
WM understands there were past issues with wet bags and will work to ensure everyone's waste is collected.
"We're not weighing those bags. I think it's pretty clear when a driver gets out to service a customer if the bag is overweight or not. If the bag is overweight or uncollectible, we'll sticker it, so we can communicate that with the resident, but otherwise, we're going to pick it up," said WM's Kyle Lester.
The three-year contract will cost the city $4 million.
