SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - The Faith Coalition for the Common Good hosted a May Day event Friday to help bring the Springfield community together.

It partnered with grassroots organizations to celebrate unions and the American workers they represent.

Resources included information tables from several local organizations.

An organizer of the event said it helps bring more attention to central Illinois.

"A lot of people think that we're just a podunk little town, we're just the capital of Illinois. But we are so much more than that. We are a city of community organizers," said AFSCME Local 2600 President Cherena Douglass.

More information on how to get involved is available online.
