CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) - An Indiana man is in critical condition after being shot multiple times in Champaign Sunday. 

Champaign Police were called to the 900 block of S. Mattis Ave. just after 1 p.m. They learned a 27-year-old man from Gary, Indiana had arrived at the hospital by personal vehicle with multiple life-threatening gunshot wounds. The victim is still hospitalized. 

Champaign Police sent officers to interview the victim while others on-scene located and processed evidence of gunfire.

Police said the victims were standing outside near an apartment building when an unknown subject approached him. Following a brief interaction, the subject took out a gun and fired it multiple times, striking the victim, CPD said.

The subject took off on foot and has not been found. 

A building in the area was also hit by gunfire.

Any person or business in the nearby area with exterior surveillance camera systems is encouraged to notify the police department. No arrests have been made at this time, and the investigation is ongoing.
