BEMENT, Ill. (WAND) — It was a day just like any other, when Laura West and Steven Isbell received the phone call of their life.Â
"They told us that we are the family that they are going to select to build a house for — and Laura started crying," Isbell said.
The couple is this year's Habitat for Humanity recipients. They received their home dedication on Saturday.Â
Their story starts over a year ago, when the two decided it was time to leave their small, two bedroom apartment behind to start a family.
"They knew we were looking for a house to start off in," Isbell said. "They knew that we weren't necessarily living in the best spot."Â
After applying and waiting, the organization selected them as the 17th house dedication for Piatt County Habitat for Humanity. Construction took a little under a year to complete for the three bedroom, two bathroom home.Â
West said they picked everything out from the color of the paint, to the floors, to the lighting.Â
The house was completely constructed by volunteers and local construction companies. Derrick Bruhn, s construction coordinator for Habitat for Humanity, said it took a large team to build this house from the ground up.
Bruhn shared, "To be part of that, and then watch young families be able to receive a home that they can now call their own, it is great"
Bart Hill lead the management of this project, with the help of Sullender Construction. Isbell and West also pitched in, watching everything they had dreamed of coming together in front of their eyes.Â
As many of their closest family and friends gathered for their housewarming dedication, the couple said it's the best thing they could have ever asked for.Â
"Just the knowing that we're going to be okay, and we will be able to start our family and things will go up from there," West said.

Isbell hopes this home, is only the beginning for them and their future family, "We can tell our kids, we built this house."
