SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) — A new addition to Lincoln Library is helping students as well as community members find their way to STEM.
“We have all of this equipment that they can come in and use and learn how to use and take it from there, do anything they want from there,” said CoLab Manager, Patrick Howk.
The Collaboratory, or CoLab, is less than a month old and there are already projects completed. Whether you're interested in 3D printing, sewing, or making your own podcast.
“A lot of our everyday lives are moving closer and closer to technology, so you need to learn that at any age really. Learn how to use a computer, or you can use 3D printers now to make toys or you know prototypes to something that you want to build,” explained Howk.
Howk believes the space is especially important because it allows students to explore STEM using these items without having to purchase equipment themselves.
“It’ll have an impact on STEM because we have this equipment for our community that they can use for free so that they don’t have to make that initial investment,” said Howk.
