ATWOOD, Ill. (WAND) - An investigation is underway after a man was found unresponsive behind the old Atwood police station and later died. 

On Jan. 26 at 12:50 a.m., a 59-year-old man, later identified as Richard Gabbard of Atwood, was spotted unresponsive behind the old station on S. Main St. by a passing train conductor. 

He was rushed to the hospital in Champaign. He was suffering from multiple traumatic injuries and severe hypothermia. 

He died at the hospital on Jan. 31. 

The Atwood Police Department is investigating. They said at this stage of the investigation, foul play can neither be confirmed nor ruled out.
