Man struck by train in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - A man was struck by a train Monday morning in Springfield. 

Springfield Police were called to the area of 11th St. and East Madison St. around 9:30 a.m. for a pedestrian who had been hit by a train.

Officers learned a Norfolk-Southern train had hit a man who they found on the east side of the tracks. 

The man was transported to a local hospital for treatment. His condition is unknown at this time. 

Drivers are told to avoid the immediate area as the accident is being investigated.
