SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) — A man who has been arrested/charged 42 times has thrown a pole through a county building, according to the Sangamon County Sheriff's Office.
On Friday, Jan. 6, Sangamon dispatch received a phone call from 45-year-old James J. Kirst. He told the dispatcher that he had thrown a metal pole through the front entrance of the Sangamon County Building at 200 S. 9th Street.
Kirst was arrested in the lobby of the Wyndham Hotel without incident.
He had been arrested earlier that Friday by Springfield Police for criminal trespass and was issued a Notice to Appear at 7:34 p.m. at the jail. This was 15 minutes prior to the event. Kirst has been charged with criminal damage to government supported property over $500, which is a class 3 felony.
Kirst was in custody at the time of the release since he refused his first appearance.
The estimated cost to repair the damage is $3,500.
