MATTOON, Ill. (WAND)- A McDonald's restaurant in Mattoon caught on fire Thursday morning.

Firefighters from the Mattoon Fire Department were called to 4212 Lakeland Blvd around 10 a.m. where there was fire on the roof of the McDonald's.

Mattoon Police notified dispatchers that they could see smoke from Old State Road.

Crews arrived on scene at 10:03 a.m. to find that employees had put out most of the fire, with very minimal smoke still showing.

The Mattoon Police evacuated the restaurant before the fire department arrived.

Firefighters went to the roof to finish extinguishing the fire, while additional crews entered the restaurant to ensure there was no fire in the ceiling area.

No fire damage was reported inside the restaurant.

Several electrical lines sustained significant damage due to the fire on the roof. Crews worked on overhauling the roof area to ensure the fire was completely extinguished.

Fire department investigators considered the fire to be accidental in nature, due to hot work being done on the roof.

Crews were using a torch as part of their procedures in repairing the roof, igniting combustible insulation.

Due to the damage to some of the electrical wiring, the store will remain closed until repairs can be made.

There were no injuries reported at this incident. All fire units cleared the scene at 11:24 a.m.
