DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - Millikin University will have a ribbon-cutting ceremony to showcase its new David J. & Debra C. Rathje Athletic Center during Homecoming festivities next month.
Millikin said in a press release that the ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 3.Â
Student-led tours of the center and a reception will follow the ceremony.
The facility is expected to provide Millikin with additional opportunities to host CCIW or NCAA championships in the future.Â
The center will include the following, according to Millikin's release:
- Offices for football, men's and women's soccer
- Football and track and field team recognition area, along with retired NFL jerseys
- Locker rooms for football, and men's and women's track and field
- A weight room named for former MU football coach Carl Poelker and former NFL player Jim Perryman
