COLES COUNTY, Ill. (WAND) — A Mattoon man is dead and his two passengers are in the hospital after police said a semi-truck hit their car in Coles County Wednesday.Â
The Coles County Sheriff's Office responded to the intersection of County Road 1200 North and County Road 300 East just before 5:30 p.m.
According to police, 35-year-old Corey Mitchell of Mattoon was driving down County Road 300 East when a semi-truck hit his driver's side.
Mitchell was pronounced dead at the scene. His two passengers, 37-year-old Amanda Wilson of Mattoon and a 5-year-old child, were taken to the hospital.Â
Michael Emmerich, the driver of the semi-truck, was cited for failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident. The crash is still under investigation.
