One person found dead when crews respond to Decatur house fire

DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - One person was found dead after crews responded to a house fire in Decatur.

The Decatur Fire Department was called to a fire at 468 S. Boyd Street at 7:40 Saturday morning.

Heavy fire and smoke were coming from the home when they arrived.

Firefighters worked to get the fire under control and searched the home to see if anyone was inside.

They found one person who was determined to be deceased.

Deputy Chief Scott Rosenbery told WAND News a cause of death for the person is still being determined, and more information will be released later.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Decatur Fire Department, Decatur Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division, the Office of the State Fire Marshal, and Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services.
