SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - More details are being released about a Springfield crash that killed one person and injured another. 

Springfield Police Officers were called to the 3300 block of Sangamon Ave., for a report of a traffic crash with injuries involving two vehicles at 8:19 p.m.

Witnesses reported a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed in the direction of oncoming traffic.

Occupants from both vehicles were transported to HSHS St. John’s Hospital for treatment.

A female from one of the vehicles was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. 

Sangamon County Coroner, Jim Allmon, said 41-year-old Chad Dial of Mahomet was taken by ambulance from the scene of a crash at Sangamon Ave. and North Dirksen Parkway. 

Dial was pronounced dead at 9:17 p.m. by hospital staff shortly after his arrival. An autopsy showed he died from blunt force injuries sustained in the crash. 

The death remains under investigation by the Sangamon County Coroner and the Springfield Police Department.
