Former users share stories of K-2 pain

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) -  A new law is expected to clamp down on synthetic cannabinoids sales.

The drug, also known as K2, was linked to over 164 cases in Illinois since the beginning of March. At least four people died as a result of the drug.

According to the new law, synthetic cannabinoids will be on the controlled substance list. The law will ban all types of synthetic cannabis, not just specific forms. The law will help prevent manufactures from changing up the chemicals in the K2 to keep it legal.

If caught manufacturing or delivering the drug it could come with a two to five year prison term and fines as much as $25,000. Possession could also come with a 1 year prison stay.

Governor Rauner  approved the bill on Aug. 10. The law takes effect on Jan. 1.Â
