Man hit and killed by train near Altamont

DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - Norfolk Southern Railway is hiring train conductors in Decatur.

They need 30 train conductors to meet "the growing demand for freight rail service."

Conductors work on freight trains in rail yards or travel with trains, operate track switches and couple rail cars.

The job requires a lot of physical activity, working outdoors nights and weekends, and may require substantial travel.

 New conductors have a guaranteed minimum annual salary of $51,000 increasing to $90,500 or more when they are promoted to an engineer.

They also get medical, dental and vision benefits.
