Decatur Civic Center arena to get new name

DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - Decatur is receiving another payment for the delayed civic center grant.

The state is releasing another payment toward the $2.1 million grant it awarded in 2016 for improvements to be made to the Decatur Civic Center.

The grant was suspended by the Rauner administration, but later reinstated.

State Senator Andy Manar made the announcement Wednesday.

$200,000 will be released for the grant.

The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity grant was approved in 2016.

In June, 2017, the grant was suspended after seed money had already been received and bids and contracts for work was completed.

The grant was reinstated in December, 2017.

After making this $200,000 payment, the state will still owe Decatur $634,539 toward the grant.Â
