ATWOOD, Ill. (WAND) – Police say a man hijacked a car with a baby in the backseat and drove to a different town.
A press release from officers says 21-year-old Seth Tindle approached a woman before 11 a.m. on Sept. 25 in the 300 block of Oak Drive as she was putting her six-month-old child in her car. Police say he told her someone was trying to hurt him, then got into the car and drove away.
Arthur police, Bement police and Douglas County deputies helped with the response. Officers found the car close to train tracks at County Road 100 E and County Road 500 N in Arthur with the baby still in the back seat and unharmed.
Tindle was close to the car at that time, police say. He’s charged with carrying a syringe and suspected meth on him.
Police say he’s facing counts of aggravated vehicular hijacking, aggravated battery, possession of meth, aggravated driving under the influence, trespassing on railroad property and more than one traffic-related charge. He is in custody at the Douglas County Correctional Center.
Officers say Tindle hit a police officer during the booking process at the jail.
Police added that they have responded to several calls at Tindle’s address, which was next door to the woman, and arrested four people there in the last five months.
