Residents in the area of Centrue Bank say it's a relatively safe area, but Monday afternoon a bank robbery occurred.
Police detained three men in a black Toyota Camry shortly after the robbery occurred at the Centrue Bank, but police say those were the wrong men. They now continue to search for the suspects.
The bank robbery occurred shortly after 2:30 p.m. Police say two suspects with guns demanded money after entering the bank. No one was injured in the incident. The suspects fled the scene with an unknown amount of cash.
Champaign Police stopped three men traveling in the 900 block of State Street, but released them after further questioning.
People who live in the area say the neighborhood is relatively quiet and there are no major problems, but a nearby business owner said several items had been stolen from his business in recent weeks. Items stolen included a TV satellite and a bicycle. The business owner was not sure if the recent crime activity was at all related to the robbery.
