SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - On Wednesday morning, crates of lactose free milk arrived at the Central Illinois Foodbank from Prairie Farms in celebration of National Dairy Month.
"This milk will go towards helping many people in our communities here local in Springfield and throughout our 21-county service area," Wes Ridgeway, the Program Manager at the foodbank, said. "We're just thankful to have generous partners like Prairie Farms to help us help our neighbors and our community and help provide them with healthy, nutritious foods."
The foodbank and Prairie Farms have a long-standing relationship and milk is one of the items that can be hard to come by for some families.
"Milk is always one of those much-needed items for neighbors in our community," Ridgeway said. "Milk, proteins, fresh fruits and veggies — those are items that we always try to provide for our community and this is a great help from Prairie Farms."
Prairie Farms supplied milk to 40 different locations across the Midwest within the Feeding America network, including the Eastern Illinois Foodbank.
The foodbank is asking for any form of donations.
"We like to say there's three things you can help donate: funds, food, and time." Ridgeway continued, saying, "Donating much needed funds for us to purchase food, donating food from local gardens or large vendors like Prairie Farms, and donating your time such as volunteering with us or local pantries."
