Vote here, election sign, polling place,

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) — On Thursday, Josh Langfelder conceded his race for the Office of Sangamon County Recorder.

On December 2, Springfield City Clerk Frank Lesko was sworn in as the Sangamon County Recorder after being declared the winner.

But only 31 votes separated the two contenders.

Thursday Langfelder decided, while his team said there was enough evidence to change the election totals, he will not pursuing a formal recount.

His team released this statement Thursday:

“In review of the notes and findings my volunteers took during the discovery process, we came to the conclusion there is enough information to substantiate a change in the election totals for the Office of Sangamon County Recorder. After further discussion with my attorneys and understanding that the process could take over a year in the courts with an estimated cost in excess of $50,000, I have decided not to proceed with the petition.

I want to thank my volunteers who participated in the discovery process as well as the staff at the Sangamon County Clerk’s Office. I also appreciate the support I received from the community.”

Lesko was sworn in on December 2nd. He has not formally resigned his seat as Springfield City Clerk. WAND News will continue following this developing story.
