SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) — Amazon is helping domestic violence survivors across the state with a huge donation. The Illinois Coalition Against Domestic Violence and the Attorney General's office announced Monday that they have distributed 1,000 Ring devices to help survivors.
Attorney General Kwame Raoul said domestic violence survivors deserve to feel secure, and Ring cameras can offer peace of mind if they want to know who is on the other side of a door.
"These cameras do more than allow survivors to monitor who is coming and going from their homes," Raoul said. "Survivors can document any order of protection violations."
State leaders said this type of technology is needed now more than ever before, as domestic violence homicides have increased by roughly 140% in the last several years. The Illinois Coalition Against Domestic Violence said member organizations are already asking for more Ring cameras to help even more survivors.
"There will be assistance, prosecutions and civil trials just because of the evidence now that will be available as a result of the Ring cameras," said ICADV President and CEO Carrie Boyd.
Amazon has donated over 35,000 Ring video doorbells and outdoor cameras to over 800 nonprofit organizations across the country since 2021. Ring also donated $25,000 to ICADV in October to help support the organization's mission and ongoing impact.
"We care deeply about the safety of our communities, and it's Ring's mission to make neighborhoods safer," said Amazon Public Policy Program Manager Raquel Medrano. "We build products and services in service of this mission because it's not only about protecting what's in and around your home, but protecting people."Â
