DECATUR, Ill. (WAND)- The Decatur Running Club is lacing up their shoes for their annual Thanksgiving morning run, a tradition that brings people together long before the holiday meal.
Â
The "Wobble Before You Gobble" run was hosted at the Red Tail Run Trail at 8 a.m.Â
Â
"We kind of call it, wobble before you gobble. So, you get out here, get some calories burned off, and maybe you don't feel so bad about that big meal you're going to eat later," said Tom Leeper, president of the Decatur Running Club.Â
Â
This 15-year tradition holds an emotional weight for some runners. Marianne Robertson said her late husband inspired her to become a runner. Many consider this group their family. Whether you're running or walking, the goal is encouraging one another. The club starts their run with a prayer--expressing gratitude for their blessings.Â
Â
"It means freedom of spirit. It's the way I de-stress. And most of all, it means friendship. Makes me feel like I can do anything. If I come out here in 28-degree weather and run. I can do anything," said Robertson.Â
Â
Even after this run, they are going to enjoy some calories with no guilt.Â
Â
"Pie, nothing but pie baby," said Robertson.Â
