DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - The final hearing before trial was held Thursday in the Macon County Courthouse for the man accused in the 2011 murder of Caleb Witty.

Court records indicate that Bobby Gipson, one of two men charged, appeared in court before a judge ahead of his May trial. Gipson and Michael I. Wallace are charged with first-degree murder.

Several Decatur police detectives and officers are subpoenaed.

In June 2024, Decatur police announced it had made two arrests in the 13-year-old murder case. According to police, in 2011, 17-year-old Witty was shot and killed while protecting his sibling after someone tried to rob them as they walked home.

During a media conference in June 2024, then-Decatur Police Chief Shane Brandel said that the department had an "unwavering commitment to seeking justice for Caleb," and that he was a young man "simply trying to enjoy an evening at the Decatur Celebration with his sister."

Wallace, the other defendant, is set to appear in June for a routine hearing.
