TAYLORVILLE, Ill. (WAND) — On Friday, Taylorville police shared on their Facebook that a scam post is going around saying there is a "dangerous man on the loose in Christian county" with #ChristianCounty. Police said the hashtag is a red flag, and legitimate posts will not contain anything of the sort.
The circulating scam post is from a fake profile. Police said it is obvious when you click on the profile.
They add that if there is any danger to the community, the department will notify the public either through its Facebook page or through the media.
Additionally, they remind residents that Facebook for-sale groups are not reputable sources of information.
If you are unsure of something, police say to contact them because they are there to help.
