URBANA, Ill. (WAND) — Terrence Shannon Jr. has dropped his lawsuit against the University of Illinois after the school chose to close its investigation of the basketball player. No disciplinary action has been taken.
Shannon was originally suspended from Illinois' basketball team on Dec. 28, 2023 after being charged with rape in Kansas. The player's legal team argued that the university rushed to make a judgement against Shannon and ignored due process by removing him from the team.
In January of this year, Judge Colleen R. Lawless ruled in favor of Shannon's Temporary Restraining Order and allowed him back on the team, where he played for the rest of the season.

The university's Office of Student Conflict Resolution sent Shannon a letter that said he was not found in violation of the school's Student Code. Though it does note that the investigator did not have access to the witness in the legal case or the full file from the Lawrence Police Department.
If new evidence is brought to light, the OSCR does reserve the ability to reopen the case.
The legal proceedings in Kansas will still continue. Shannon has a preliminary court hearing set for May 10.
All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
