DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - Thinkwell Makerspace is a new center for students looking to dive deep into science, technology, engineering, art, and math.
Executive Director Jesse Blunt says it was important for him to create a space like this for children because he didn't have this growing up.
“It was a result of needing to have access to tools. Tools that I couldn’t afford at all growing up that was always kind of a limitation to creativity.” said Blunt.
Blunt acquired the space recently and he really wanted kids to see what they were capable of.
There are different areas from art to engineering.
“We want people to walk away from the makers space feeling that spark of discovery. You know when you realize that something wasn’t as challenging as you thought it was going to be.” stated Blunt.
He wants kids to leave with the idea that nothing is perfect the first time around, and that it's okay to fall. As long as you get back up.
“Being capable of rebounding, being capable of picking yourself up after a failure, after a fall. It’s a valuable part of being a maker. Nobody is ever going to be a perfect 100%, 10/10 a hundred percent of the time.” said Blunt.
